Voice Studio

WELCOME TO MY VOICE STUDIO!

I have been teaching private voice lessons in my home studio since 1983.  I was a private voice instructor at Muhlenberg College in Allentown for 8 years, and at Merion Mercy Academy for 15 years.  I currently have room in my home studio for new students eager to learn.  My students’ ages have ranged from 13-72; I especially love sharing my love and knowledge of the voice with ‘baby singers’ (yes, I even had one 72 years old!), so most of my students have been of high school and college age.  It is so gratifying to help a student find their voice and watch them grow through the discipline and process of building technique and repertoire.

The foundational technique for good and beautiful singing is basically the same in terms of energy, breath, and paths of sound; however there are some placement adjustments for different styles (classical, Broadway, jazz etc.).  I emphasize the singer as an athlete and guide students to access and strengthen the muscles for singing, while also stressing the release of tension and the importance of stretching, (like any athlete!).  Beauty of sound is the goal, no matter what style.  We therefore work on correct vowels in the different ranges that result in vibrant and pure sounds, and that carry beauty to touch the hearts of listeners.

Many of my high school students have placed in the PMEA Districts, Regionals, All-State, and All-Eastern conferences.  Many have continued their vocal training at prestigious music schools and universities; some want special help with sight-singing or help preparing pieces for a church job.  Lessons help build the confidence necessary to prepare students for auditions and performances.  I schedule an end-of-the-year recital to give my students the opportunity to perform for each other and family members; this has become a valuable tradition for all (see photos below).

I also enjoy sharing my love for languages as well; I speak French and Italian, and am experienced in singing and teaching the pronunciation of Latin, Spanish and German as well as French and Italian; a little Russian, Czech and Yiddish too.

VIRTUAL LESSONS AVAILABLE! If you are interested in knowing more, I would be happy to speak with you (see Contact page).  Let me help you discover the joy of singing!
